A Galactic Goodnight

Little Einsteins Rocks!
It's hard not to like a show that teaches youngsters through classical music. My daughter loves watching a handful of episodes, among them the Dragon Kite and Christmas wish. Repeat viewing gets tiresome with other programs, but I feel like I'm learning something new along with her. It's amazing watching a 2 year old yelling "Crescendo" along with the characters. Recommend it highly.

Educational and fun
My son just turned 2 and loves Little Einsteins. He requests to watch the "rocket ship" over and over. I love that he getting a little education too.

These are great!
My daughter loves Little Einsteins! I like that they expose kids to music and art and do it in a way that is fun and interesting. Since I'm not musically inclined, my daughter and I get to learn about music and notes together, which is great. I highly recommend this series!

Hot Mess It Up [HD]

Like it
Like watching it. It's most of the time clear, but sometimes it can get staticky if your not in a good Internet connection, but overall, it was great and fun to watch!

Pre-Tweener Heaven
If you have a dance crazed child, ours is a 7 year old girl, then this series will be your child's video "drug" of choice. For the most part it is harmless fun, but, in true Disney fashion, Disney cannot help but throw in some crude lines from time to time. We are a bit prudish in our house, so you may not even notice the crudity. Anyway, big recommendation for the right crowd.
(As an adult, it is not too annoying, until the 3rd episode in a row is played, at which time it becomes fingernails on the ol' chalkboard.)

5 year old gift
My daughter has not stopped watching it since she received it on her bday. It really keeps her attention and I love that!

New Years Eve

Funny, clever, beautifully shot
Louie CK is the best comic working today and his one-man show (he writes, directs and stars in it) just keeps getting better. Great guest turns by Melissa Leo and Parker Posey and writing that is sharp and poignant without veering into sentimentality. Each episode is like a self-contained short narrative film, beautifully shot and scored with a jazz soundtrack, Louie's not afraid to take risks with his writing and his casting and delivers something unexpected each week. Highly recommended.

Not for everybody but I *really* appreciate it
I look forward to each new episode in Season 3. Part of what I like about this show is how it balances Louis as a really sincere and loving father (even when he is giving his kids the finger behind their backs when they p*** him off) with his no-holds-barred adult life, filled with odd people who often have bizarre sexual tastes. Some of the later episodes are playing less for laughs and more for very intimate portrayals of the complexities of true intimacy with another person and the sometimes-very-thin wall it shares with perversity. The two episodes showing him meeting and going on a date with the marvelous Parker Posey were beautifully rendered (she should get some sort of big old prize for the way she transformed her role in a special way I know I've never before seen on a small screen). My wife is not a fan at ALL: he curses around his kids (they take no offense and hardly seem to notice) and some of the almost-always-sexual situations are over the top, but hey this is Louis...

The Real Deal
I know that "Louie" is billed as a comedy, and that some people may be turned off on some of his episodes because they don't make you bust a gut laughing every second of every minute. As a viewer, though, you need to keep in mind that this is as close as anyone is going to get to a "stream of consciousness" from a comedian.

The very nature of a comedian's talent is to take the slices of life we all endure, and then distill the essence of the experience so that we can then identify with it and laugh at it as a shared experience. That's what comedy is -- laughing at our shared experiences -- and that's what makes Louie CK so funny: he does this (seemingly) like second nature.

It's not second nature though, because to be genuine, the distillation process must come from real, dark and sometimes sad experiences and memories. I, for one, am glad to know that Louis CK is out there, and am in constant awe of the way he can show us both sides of the coin -- both the...

Teddy's Little Helper

Great Family Show
My kids love watching this show (6, 4, and 2 years old). The show is funny and entertaining for kids and adults. When my 2 year old hears the opening music he comes running in the room and sits on the couch to watch "Charlie"...and he sits quietly for the whole ~22 minute episode. We get to watch a funny show that the whole family enjoys and my 2 year old sits quietly!!! I couldn't ask for much more.

7 year old daughter loves this show!
My 7 year old daugher loves this sitcom...even my husband and I like it. It's not just for the kids, we can all relate to some aspects. Some of the content is above the 7 year old's head, but that's what makes it fun for the parents. Cute show.

awsome
I am 68 but I really like Good Luck Charlie. I think it's an excellent family program.I watch it often and hope it's on for a long time

Mob Wives Chicago: Season 1

Really?
This was SOOO stupid - and I bought the whole season - it was boring .. hopefully there will be no season 2! I liked the original Mob Wives but this one was lame!

Unwatchable
The original Mob Wives was interesting. This offshoot is nothing but contrived drivel. I've grown up in Chicago, and sure there's a lot of mob history, but it's exactly that: history. I don't know what barrel they scraped these women off the bottom of. The mob doesn't exist in Chicago any more, so these women and their alleged mob ties are ridiculous.

Love it!!
Since I'm a faithful watcher of Mob Wives, I thought I'd give Mob Wives Chicago a go. Being from Chicago myself, I never really knew the Mob was in my own city. I'm kinda sad that there's only one season of MWC. There won't be a second one. :(

So much fun!!!
Anyone whose a fan of Kevin Smith should own this! I'm not that big of a comic book fan, but after a friend of mine was featured on the show, my husband and I have been hooked. It's hysterically funny and a great show!

Best show for grown up boys!

Appropriate Adult Part 2

First-rate film!
Just as I despair of ever again putting my mind to a film which is anything other than hopelessly derivative, all of a sudden up pops a film which made me sit straight in my chair for two hours without budging. The film, as it turns out, is a British made-for-TV movie which premiered in England in September of 2011.

"Appropriate Adult" recounts the true story of Frederick and Rosemary West, husband and wife serial killers from Gloucester, England, who tortured and killed at least eleven girls and young women between the late 1960's - 1980's.

I am not a fan of fiction as a rule, and even less so of murder mysteries. They have never been able to hold my interest. Real life stories do possess a little more appeal, but I am, at this age, averse to viewing any more explicit gore, car chases, and endless police procedures and courtroom melodrama. In real life I listen to my better half recite stories from her daily grind in the criminal justice system -- and it is...

Too 'nice', Dominic West too sexy, but still compelling
I can vaguely remember the headlines in the 1990s about what was found in Gloucester, and have to admit that this series spurred me to learn more. Psychopathic would not even begin to describe what went on the the Cromwell Road house while the Wests lived there. I don't think that their story should be glamorized. Dominic West is a superb actor, and very charismatic and sexy. Fred West was mentally at a level far below what Dominic West portrays, and had his own 'trademark' tendencies which helped the police know which killings he was involved with. He and his wife were sexual sadists in their own home. Apparently he also made videotapes of himself committing horrendous acts, even on his own children. None of this is mentioned in this series.
We feel sympathy for him in the movie, which I feel is inappropriate if you look at the materials that finally led to his arrest. Even wild animals do not usually sexually prey upon their own children and in most cases do not murder...

Gold 'n' Gloves [HD]

Good show.
To start off, It says in the opening credits that Allan & Ton buy hundreds of Storage units a year, and these Stories(Episodes) represent the best of them. As a avid "Picker" myself, I can attest to the fact that sometimes, out the hundreds of things I find & buy, there a some that blow my mind. Things that I bought for $2-$5 that sell for $200-$300+. And on average, most items I buy & then sell, cost around 10% of the final sale price. This is consistent with these episodes. So anyone saying that these episodes are "Staged" IMHO, has no experience doing anything even close to what is represented here. The deals are out there, waiting to be found.

I do wish they would get more into the "other" side of these auctions though. Like how much it costs them to make dump runs on the junk, and maybe even show the day to day selling of the smaller items they always include in the final profit.

That said, I love watching Auction Hunters for the informative information...

The best in the Business
These two have rare chemistry and it is always entertaining
they are not predictable and have good sense for humor

Just too fake
It's well known now that the storage units in these sort of shows are staged with great finds, and not reality. I only purchased this video because it was related to my job and I was curious. They all play out the same, so save your money and watch a random episode on TV.

Waltons: The Complete Fourth Season

4th Season Waltons
Any DVD of the Walton Series is a big hit. We watched them as my children were growing up and now we are purchasing them for the grandchildren because their parents liked them so much and because there is nothing worth watching on television these days for Familys to watch together. The same goes for Little House Series. Thank you to those who have decided to put these series out for us to be able to see again and again. Amazon always comes through when it comes to these series.

Walton's
I have ordered and received within a week of ordering all nine complete seasons of the Walton's. I have only gotten to review the first five seasons at this point because there are so many. There are at least five disks in each season. I just started season six. I am enjoying them tremendously. I loved the show on TV and I am enjoying everyone I have viewed so far. I purchased all nine from various sellers and very pleased with all of them. So far they are all great and in great condition. When I complete viewing the rest of the seasons, six through nine, I will complete the review those also. At this point in time I am completely satisfied with what I have watched. They were all received within a week of ordering. Thank you so much for all the enjoyment and great service Amazon sellers.

Stott Pilates Matwork Flow Conditioning Sequence Workout DVD

Streamlined Flowing Workout
You don't have to be a dancer to appreciate Stott's 24-minute Matwork Flow, but as an ex-dancer, I certainly enjoyed it. Graceful swings of arms and legs, long stretches with flowing dancer poses, yet just enough to be challenging, I did this workout after Stott's Sunrise Workout, a simple, basic workout which in 22 minutes got me ready for the Matwork Flow. Both these workouts will get all your muscles ready for the day, and there's really nothing in either that you can't do. The Matwork Flow has all the familiar Pilates movements, embellished with graceful dance movements on the mat, and added to the Sunrise Workout, make for one completely satisfying workout session. Done in bare feet, along with calming music, and I really enjoy the light airy-ness of the beautifully designed Stott studio, inspired me to do the two workouts. I also like the fact that these workouts are short enough and easy enough to combine with other short workouts, as I feel Moira is really the at the top of...

Stott
Lovely video and all three participants move lovely. I have purchased many of Stott DVDs, and Natalia and Kim are my favorites to watch as they make it look so beautiful and the technique is just amazing. Only thing I don't like is that the women in the video are not in the cover of the DVD and I often purchase DVDs just because of the people in it, so I don't like it when the cover model does not match the expert in the DVD

It Is What It Is [HD]

Stop being pretentious
This family is happy and supportive of one another. Its obvious they deeply care for each other and are looking out for their best interests. No, they aren't living in LA arguing over which fall fashion line to buy and that is no reason to tear them to shreds. They have limited means but they make the most of it and know how to have fun. Its a different subculture than what you are used to seeing on tv but get over it. Highly entertaining, and Im constantly laughing. Makes for good tv.

Funny Stereotypes
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I ended up laughing at this stereotype of uneducated unwholesome family life in the fry-daddy rural south. I felt more ashamed of myself with each episode I watched. But it sure was funny and if the series was mean spirited in concept the Honey Boo Boo clan diffused it and disarmed it with their willingness to laugh at themselves. They embrace their lifestyle. They love each other. In the end I had to wonder who's zoomin' who. In a clear and mean attempt to poke fun, it was clearly the Boo Boo family who was laughing last and loudest.

I'm surprised. I absolutely expected to hate this show.
My guess is TLC thought they hit the Redneck jackpot with this family and planned to exploit them for fun and profit. They've got extreme couponing, the Redneck games, the teenage, unmarried pregnancy, obesity, toddler pageants, roadkill bbq, and a couple other negative American stereotypes thrown in for fun. They're probably kicking themselves that they couldn't manage hoarding. (I mean TLC is more carnival side-show than learning channel anymore). I think it backfired on them when the family didn't turn out to be a bunch of fist fighting, bitter and angry Rednecks on food stamps who were paranoid over the government. Instead they got a family that loved and supported each other.

While I think the entire pageant system is a huge scam and detrimental to the self-esteem of young girls (and boys), Alana seems to think they're fun. Her family has a much healthier attitude towards her participation than most pageant parents as in, it's great if she wins but they don't punish...

Stott Pilates Power and Agility Reformer Intervals on the Cardio-Tramp Rebounder DVD Set

good workout - terrible menu
I want to start by saying that I really enjoyed the actual workout part of the DVD. But I have only used it twice because it takes FOREVER for the DVD to finally allow you to start the workout. Not only do I have to sit through warnings and commercials that I cannot bypass before getting to the menu, I then have to fast forward a few minutes past the introductions. There is no chapter marker for when the actual workout starts, which seem so strange to me.

After seeing all of their warnings, commercials and introductions once, sitting through them again is really boring! It takes more than 5 minutes.

If you aren't a busy person and don't mind sitting around waiting for your DVD to start I think you will be happy with the workout. It's too bad. The instructor and helpers did a great job, they just hired the wrong person to create the physical DVD.

Blood Type O Kick Boxing Workout DVD, Small

Some interesting moves, but poor cuing and cumbersome overall
I enjoy kickboxing, so I was drawn to this workout despite not being a "O" blood type. (I'm an actually a "B", but the Blood Type Workout, Type B Low Impact Cardio Strength with Ellen Barrett didn't look as appealing to me, even though I do like Ellen Barrett.) In her Introduction to this workout, instructor Patricia Moreno explains that Type Os "thrive" on intense exercise, and so that is the aim of this workout, which apparently the first of the series in several others that will be released for Type Os, including a strength workout from Gay Gasper.

Moreno, who is exercising in a all-white room with large windows looking out onto a city street, begins this workout with a 6-minute warm-up. She starts with a breath focus to center, then moves into plies with a squat. Next, she comes into a plank position, adding lunges and then lunge with a twist. Moreno finishes the warm-up by "running" the legs...

Bikini Bust

Fun show that appeals to many different people
Bar Rescue is a series that currently is running on Spike. The basic premise for the series has Jon Taffer, a bar consultant, helping failing bars improve to avoid closing for good. This typically involves repairing worn or out of date design schemes and revamping bar food and drink menus (and teach bartenders the basics in a lot of cases).

This series has a lot in common with shows like "Kitchen Nightmares" and "Restaurant Impossible": Taffer comes in and gives the owner a necessary kick in the butt. I will say that he is good at what he does. If bar owners are receptive to his advice, sales and earnings typically show big improvements. He also seems like he really wants the featured bar owners to succeed.

This is a great show for marathon viewings, which Spike typically has when new episodes are premiering. A few weeks ago me, my girlfriend, and her younger brother and father all spent our Sunday afternoon vegging out with this series. Can't wait until...

Entertaining and informative
Jon Taffer knows his stuff! The shows are fun to watch and insightful into the bar and restaurant business. The business makeovers are inspiring.

If you are a bar owner, watch and learn. If you are a bar patron, enjoy observing business situations similar to your favorite watering holes.

Taffer knows what he is doing
Bar Rescue is a great business makeover show because Taffer knows what makes businesses work, and understands how they can fail. This episode is the best example of how "wanting to own my own bar" and actually being successful are two different things -- just because you like pirates doesn't mean everyone else does, and it certainly doesn't mean you can make money off of it. And thats what business are supposed to do - make money. Deny that and you're an idiot or delusional, or both.

Five

A Thoughtful Change Of Pace From Lifetime: Five Overlapping Stories About Breast Cancer
In the world of Lifetime movies, there are two basic genres. ONE: A woman triumphing over hardship, adversity, or abuse in a tough, but life affirming, "based on real incidents" TV docudrama. And TWO: The prurient "ripped from the headline" scandal or crime story that borrow from real cases and wallow in distasteful dramatic recreations. While I suppose, on some level, that the heartfelt examination of breast cancer "Five" fits into the first category, it could not be further from the formula filmmaking that the network is known for. For one thing, it is packed with marquee name talent both before and behind the camera. As this special was readied for Breast Cancer Awareness month in 2011, the advertising campaign placed a lot of emphasis on the powerhouse roster of directors behind these five intertwined stories. Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Keys, and Demi Moore all are responsible behind the scenes for one story with Patty Jenkins (who guided Charlize Theron to an Oscar in Monster)...

Funny, moving, and dramatically satisfying
Five is composed of five short films directed by five different directors--Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Penelope Spheeris, Alicia Keys, and Patty Jenkins--that form a continuous narrative. The theme is the impact of a breast cancer diagnosis on the life of the person with the disease and that person's family and friends.

It sounds like a recipe for a depressing and overly-sentimental film, but that's not the case here. There is sadness here but there is also triumph, humor, hope . . . consequences that someone who has never faced this wouldn't even think of. Characters who are human beings--flawed, unwilling to face painful truths, not afraid to love or be loved in spite of it all. Yes, you want to have a hanky handy when you watch this, but you'll also roar with laughter as this amazingly talented cast performs these beautifully written scripts.

Powerful, sentimental, funny . . . most of all, comforting and life affirming.

Talented Cast, Lots of Laughs and Lots of Kleenex needed
Five stories intertwine about the way breast cancer affects the lives of women and men who suffer from it. They humanize the coping process through comedy, love, and strength. The stories are bold and brave. The actors don't glamorize the situations; instead bring them down to a level that we can all relate to and raises our awareness to something that we are often asleep to. A true conversational piece that keeps you talking.

Doctor Who in America

Too little science.. or maybe too much
The Science of Doctor Who
I picked this up to watch ahead of the new season of Doctor Who. I should have simply watched "The Wedding of River Song" again instead.

Each segment of the documentary style program focuses on one piece of classic Who lore (like the TARDIS, sonic screwdriver, or even Regeneration.)

The segments all start with clips from the current run of Doctor Who (no older clips, sadly), along with a short description - and then follows an often tedious attempt to translate the item into our technology, followed by a discussion which ends with a guess of how soon we'll have something that looks a Sonic Screwdriver.. sorta.. if you squint.

Really, I'm not sure what I was expecting - but this somehow felt both light on science content, and long on science-like discusion.

Dr. Who?
Never fails to interest me. The new doctor is a different kind of man, yet he manages to interest me again and again!

Fun and Interesting
It's been awhile since I watched this but I remember it being as I said in the title fun and interesting. Actually, all the videos that were included with this on the specials were very enjoyable to watch.

Yoga For Beginners:STRETCH

makes me workout & boosts my day!!!!
I'm so glad I bought this because first of all I could never get myself to the gym, and this dvd is something I now flip in and use EVERY day! when I'm late for work or feeling lazy I'll only do 2 of the 10min sections but if I'm on time before work I'll do more like 4! I REALLY hope Claire puts out different ones besides "stretch" soon because I have this one memorized!
The way she explains it and how easy it is to choose my options makes this like the only at-home workout that has ever actually been able to HELP ME WORKOUT!
love it Claire thank you so much- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Perfect For Beginners
I really like this video for several reasons:
1. The exercises are actually doable. I have several other beginning yoga DVDs, and I find myself staring at the TV during half of the video because I can't actually do the poses. Claire has selected and modified poses so that they can actually be done. On the other hand, I could see if you were really good at yoga, this might be too easy for you.
2. I love how the video is broken up into 10 minutes segments by body part. Each segment is like a complete workout too with a warm up, exercises, and cool down. So If I don't have a lot of time to exercise I can easily just do a few segments and make my workout as short or long as I want. If my legs are hurting one day, I can do the leg portion and they'll feel better.
3. I just feel better. The exercises are gentle but have a level of challenge to them as well. They've definitly improved how I feel overall and I look forward to using this video several times per week...

Wonderful DVD!
I am so impressed with this DVD! Not only is it super easy to follow, it's perfect for any time of the day- or amount of time you have to practice. Claire and the commentator do a fantastic job of guiding you through the poses/stretches, and allow you plenty of time to reap the benefits. I really hope Claire comes out with another DVD soon, because she's absolutely fantastic.

Wild Goose System - Dayan Palm Form

A Super Powerful Form!
I have been doing Dayan Palm for less than a week and already love it. In my 18 years of martial arts experience, I can not recall many forms this dynamic. I can feel the power and energy in every movement. On this DVD, Shane Lear performs both a slower, more qigong style version as well as a full-speed, martial version of the form. The movements are explained in a manner that is easy to follow along with and learn from at your own pace. This DVD is a necessity for those looking to make their training more well-rounded.

Episode 1

Trevor Eve always puts on a good show
Best British series to come along since "Sherlock" Well acted and a good storyline bought series one ala carte, to see how good they were. second series i purchased as a block and saved a buck.

Viewer felt Kidnapped & Ransomed
When I saw that the main character was Trevor Eve, expected this to be another action and intriquing series as Waking the Dead and other Trevor Eve's Work. But it was like he needed a break and thought this one would be a respite. He's meeting kidnappers face to covered face in a desert like venue unarmed? Give me a break! The storyline fizzled and just when you think the victim is going home another group of "kidnappers" shoots these kidnappers and takes the victim even when the first perps kept using new phones and couldn't be found. Too many holes or maybe dropped scenes to make any sense out of the story. I'm sorry I had to pay the charge to watch this one. I felt kidnapped and ransomed. Don't waste your money on this disappointing Series.

Reality Is
I think this is a good show,... however it should be rated low enough for Prime.
I am not impressed.
If I met this negotiator first, I would not hire him. He is arrogant and sloppy. Here he is dealing with a woman's life, and I feel his concerns should be focused entirely on this until she is rescued and home safe,.. and far from grave concern about his daughter reading the Bible
Also funny when he is visiting with the hostage after she has been returned home safe,.. the daughter , who is definitely facebook age, is running around the swing set, actually swinging and pushing off on her scooter? What,.. is she a 5 year old trapped in a 12 year old's body.
And last and most of all, If some one left me in the Bolivian desert , I would hunt him down and feed him a mouth full of that sand beneath my feet.
The director's portray the main character as an arrogant ass who slightly gives a damn , which to me, degrades the movie all together.

The Angels Take Manhattan [HD]

Needed a few tissues for this one
I will say this for BBC's reboot of Doctor Who -- the show does both its Hello's and its Goodbyes very well. It will be difficult to write much in this review without offering spoilers. I really, really enjoyed this episode. It kept me guessing. It had Moffat's usual riddles and it had the depth of emotional drama one saw in the best of Russell T. Davies' episodes. I've been missing the old romance and panache of Amy & Rory's relationship for the past few episodes, and this episode brought it back in a huge way. Some depth added to the relationship between River Song and the Doctor, as well.

My favorite line from the episode:

"We're changing the future. It's called marriage."

God, that hit home. As both a married man and as a viewer who has really invested in Amy and Rory, this one hit home.

What else to say? The Weeping Angels were back. They weren't quite as chilling as in "Blink," but there were several intense moments that recalled that...

The Question That Must Never Be Answered
For the dedicated Doctor Who fan, it isn't a matter of whether this is less or more than "Blink". The deliciousness lies in this season's beginning ending with "The Question That Must Never Be Answered" - just a sly HINT of where we're going on this year's roller coaster ride with the Doctor. And WHO is there among us who could POSSIBLY resist that?!?

The story is amazing. Touching. Human. And humane. "Subtract love, add hate." That is the formula that makes a monster of any human. How strong must be the love that keeps us human in the face of our worst fears!

"Asylum of the Daleks" is a GEM - one of the greatest "Who's". EVER.

Loved it.
I have it very very rough these days. There aren't a lot of things for me to look forward to anymore. But I can look forward to Doctor Who.

To Have and to Kill

Well done
I gave it five rating because I happen to live in Sullivan County where the murder had taken place. I'm also a retired Police Officer who knew both of these Police Officer's investigating this homicide. The movie was well done by both the Actors and Cops who investigated the actual events and help to narrated the film. This is why I purchased the movie from Amazon.

marvelous
excellent documentary that shows how the pendulum swings from happiness to saddness in life how love can turn to hate in an instant. how a swee kiss on the cheek can become a hard bite on the nose.

Great Episode
Well told and played out story by a great cast. Had me interested from the start and had a great twist at the end at first you think that Angel Deleg was the murder which the actor was great with giving you good expressions during the conflict at the party. The narration was great and even kept you on your toes. The way the episode was put together was great and keep your interest during the whole show. Well done in my book a must see!

The Mysterious Cities of Gold

The best animated children's series ever made! 100 stars!
This 1980's series, loosely based on Scott O'Dell's novel "The King's Fifth" is a superb blend of Japanese animation, French writing, and some of the best music ever.

The series which is one big story arc follows a group of Spaniards in the 16th century who go looking for a city of gold that is hidden somewhere in Central or South America, they are accompanied by an Inca girl who can decipher clues to its location and later meet other people along the way.

The storyline includes mythology of lost continents of Atlantis and Mu (Hiva in this story), and of their supposed highly advanced technology that rivals today's.

This series was the jewel of Nickelodeon's television programming in the 1980's and became a cult classic. It was previously released on DVD in Quebec and France in the early 2000's and Japan a few years later. It is now set for a long overdue US release with excellent special features.

I speculate that the success of bootleg...

A Golden Oppertunity
After 20 years of waiting, its finally here.

The Mysterious Cities of Gold is a show most of children would have seen on Nickelodeon in the mid-80's. A rare collaboration between French writers and Japanese animators (overseen by none other than Hayao Miyazaki himself), it combined strong characters with rich artwork, and set it all in a more or less historically accurate 15th century Meso-America. 39 episodes in length, this series tells one continuous story, told primarily from the viewpoint of the show's three main child characters.

Along their journey, these children demonstrate the virtues of love, friendship, kindness, and self-sacrifice, without any of the artificial constructs normally placed into such stories. They learn and grow, becoming deeper, more mature people as they explore and come in contact with real South American cultures, which are painted in a positive light. The primary antagonists are the invading Spaniards, seeking to look the new...

The long overdue MCoG box set, finally available!
To be certain, this show is terrific! The glowing reviews for the Mysterious Cities of Gold, both on this site and throughout the web, are well-deserved. With that said, I'm more interested in discussing the particulars of this DVD, to help you make an educated purchase.

This release spreads 39 episodes out between 6 discs. Each episode is presented along with its original, corresponding documentary. Additionally, there are DVD exclusives on each disc. The features are engaging, although it would've been nice to segregate the extras to disc 6, making it easier to find them!

Also, it is true that there are no other language options or subtitles on this disc. This is a little disappointing, as the documentary on the voice-over acting discusses the differences between the french and english translations frequently, making me wish I could hear some of the original french!

Yet, despite my criticisms, this box truly is very very good. An alternate Region 1...

Heroes: Season Three

A late season rally might portend better things to come
There is no way around it: the first half of Season Three of HEROES was as bad as Season Two had been. And there was little hope that it was going to get better. But then it did. Much of the improvement might have been the result of one of the greatest tragedies of the 2008-2009 season, ABC's cancellation of one of the best shows in the history of television, PUSHING DAISIES. But one show's tragedy is another's great fortune. Bryan Fuller, who had been a consulting producer for HEROES in its first and promising season (he was given writing credits on what is to this day by far the greatest HEROES episode ever, the brilliant Season One episode "Company Man," was suddenly freed from PUSHING DAISIES, and was made the new show runner for HEROES after several producers and writers were released from the show. The improvement in the show was not instantaneous, but it was close. By the end of the season the show was as interesting as it had been in flashes in Season One.

Whether...

Laughably bad
Smell that? That's the smell of a once great television show going straight down the crapper. Thanks to an unbelievably awful season 3-there's really little point left in following the once brilliant "Heroes". Over the course of this extremely disappointing season, Heroes devolved from a well written, exciting, "must see" television show into a frustrating exercise in viewer patience. Despite the hope that things would improve after a sub-par Season 2, the exploits of the so called "Heroes" (who really do nothing that even remotely resembles anything heroic) yielded nothing but disappointment "weak" after excruciating "weak".

The first volume of Season 3-"Villains" was excessively convoluted and drawn out-sans anything of any real substance happening. Characters also seemed to completely change personalities and flip flop their allegiances on a dime for no other reason than to suit the writer's purposes.

Despite my hopes for an improved second volume...

There is only season one
Even if you think you want to watch more heroes, it is better if you pretend that season one is the only season.

Heroes: Season One

A review of the Blu-Ray version
I'm not even going to review the show, as many people countless times have said what I already think in other reviews. I'm going to cover the quality of the Blu-Ray, and whether you should upgrade from your DVD/HD-DVD. Needless to say, this season has great acting, a great story, great special effect (for TV), and great writing. It's a shame the series went crazy after Bryan Fuller left after this season, but when he returned in Volume 4 the show became good again. Here's hoping the show keeps the quality up!

VIDEO QUALITY: 3.5

Sadly, Heroes' video quality is pretty disappointing. That's not to say the video quality is bad by any means, but I expect better from a show with such high production value as Heroes.

I'll start off with the positive: The video quality is light-years ahead of the DVD release. Gone is the macro-blocking and over-sharpening of the DVD video, and in is the high detail and bright colors of the Blu-Ray video. With TV shows in...

Great show, NOT truly Blu-Ray quality
The show is great...watched it on DVD once already. But I'm very disappointed in the supposed Blu-ray quality of the discs. Scenes are granulated and few scenes are truly Blu-ray'd out. They were so much more expensive, but you can just about get the same quality on DVD...certainly not enough of an upgrade to justify the price increase.

Should have just been a miniseries
They really should have just made this a miniseries because the first season was the best of the shows run and should have just ended then and there. Aside from my feelings on how they should have made the show, the Blu-Ray transfer is nice looking next to the DVD version. It's not the best transfer I've seen, they have a lot of murky looking shadows and darkly lit scene problems with the transfer, being that they look pixelated and muddy. Other than that, the effects look good, colors are vibrant and detail is good. There is no new features from the DVD version and the box design is exactly the same. If you are a fan of the show you should get this. If you like the first season only like me, it's pretty worth the affordable price for one of the best first seasons of a show ever, it's just a shame they didn't stop there.

Heroes: Season Two

Not up to the quality of Season 1 but still good
Season One of Heroes was phenomenal; I really got invested into the characters and their wild stories. It was funny, exciting, dark and unique. Season 2 dipped in quality a bit, partly due to the writer's strike, but I still found it entertaining and not as bad as many are making it out to be. Hiro DID spend too much time in Japan but it was wrapped up nicely. I liked the new characters of Monica and Elle. Matt was given more time on-screen (not as much as Hiro or Claire but still quite a bit.) It's a nice set-up for the next season (which sounds like it'll be amazing... if you're disappointed with Season 2 don't stop watching. The creators are really working hard on 3 and even made an apology.) The second half of Season 2 gets even better and that's when the show really takes off.

Not as poor as some think
I do ackowledge that the second season of Heroes was a let-down in some ways. Even the producers have admitted they made the mistake of assuming fans wanted the same slow build as the first year and the plot of Hiro in Japan dragged too long. But it does come together with great bits, none as good as the introduction of Kristen Bell as the wonderfully psychotic Elle. Despite his presence in a poor plot, Sylar is still a great menace to watch and the Adam Monroe character is inspired as well. I do think the writers had planned for the reast of the season to be amped up but the strike curtailed it. Still, this second volume is a good way to enrich the show's history and, while not as great as the first season, is still better thrills, drama and even laughs than most network shows today. Plus, I'm sure the commentaries will touch on the problems it had and deleted scenes might help as well, making it a must have, whatever the price.

Not disappointed!
I agree with the more recent reviews of this season. I too was prepared for an awful viewing experience, but after watching the entire Season 2 in 2 days, I was very satisfied! Maybe it was lowered expectations or the fact that I did not set aside time each week to watch the show, but either way I did not feel particularly cheated by this season. It is hard to meet the level of excitement of a first season, but considering the strike and shortened plot line I think Season 2 is well worth watching and owning!

Episode 1

Great series
Lots of action and twists in the story. It kept my attention and I am hoping for a third season.

Good drama
Good story with good character developments. The British have a knack for developing great TV dramas. The story was timely, the setting realistic, the charachter development complete. Trevor Eve iplays the perfect negotiator....cool headed, smart, and totally believable. I thought the story in season 2 was filled with great twists and turns Hope it comes back for season 3

Couldn't move until conclusion
Not as spell binding as series 1 but well worth watching. Trevor Eve never disappoints. I've been a fan since the Politician;s Wife.

Dora the Explorer: Dora's Royal Rescue

Once again, good value.
This was a gift for a Dora fan. Condition was perfect when received. it is getting lots of use since.

A great way to reinforce a love of reading!
Is your preschooler a fan of Dora the Explorer? If so, Dora the Explorer: Dora's Royal Rescue, is a DVD your going to want to add to your collection. The DVD includes a double-length episode, "Dora's Royal Rescue," which features the voices of Andy Garcia as Don Quixote and Placido Domingo as Malambruno. Also included, is the new-to-DVD episode, "Dora's Knighthood Adventure," which features the voice of Garcia as Don Quixote.

This has fast become one of our car travel favorites! The boys love Dora & Boot's adventures and I love that they are defending their love of books and reading - which reinforces just how important reading is! One of the other things that I like is that because this is a double length adventure, it moves beyond the 'typical' layout a little bit, making it just different enough to be more inviting to my parental ears!

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this DVD in exchange for my honest opinion

love it
Great movie! my daughter loves it and so do I. Its well worth the price and a great movie to start a Dora collection of movies.

The Who: From The Bush to The Valley

Buyer Beware!!!
This dvd is a re-release of Chrome Dreams' film, "The Who Under Review". If you have not purchased that dvd, (as I unfortunately did), you will enjoy the program.
Chrome Dreams has a very bad habit of re-releasing their dvds under new names to resell old product. I wish they would stop this practice.
This dvd is very well produced, however, and the critics and writers who narrate do a fine job of telling the story of the early Who. There are many music exerpts, and the sound quality is very good.
As I said, if you haven't purchased the original dvd, you will enjoy the show.

Re-issue
It's a re-release of The Who Under Review! If you own The Who Under Review DO NOT BUY THIS!!!
I wish I had known this before I bought it. The only redeeming quality is that the packaging is nicer!

Don't bother, even if you don't own the other version
This video says it covers "The Keith Moon Years", but only as long as those years are 1964-68. It stops before Tommy!! Short of some interview footage with Shel Talmy, this is nothing but rehashed video clips already available elsewhere.

It's also only an hour. A good hour, I guess, but could be so much more. I still can't get over that it stops before Tommy.

Tennis: The Inner Game

Loved it!
This was a great video. My son watched this in preparation for tennis try-outs. I felt that he was getting the wisdom of a seasoned coach.

Not what I was looking for
The guy who was giving the lesson was just too old. In his prime I'm sure he was a top instructor, but father time got up to him. I don't mean to be cruel or insensitive just honest. The girl getting the lesson made up for him (she was hot). It wasn't that bad, but it could of been better.

Gentle Restorative Yoga With Diana Ross

Restorative Yoga is Restorative for LIFE :)
This restorative yoga dvd contains all the yoga you need for body and mind. It will make you feel like you have been rejuvenated and relaxed, at the same time stretching all the important parts of the body. It is a reminder to honor your body and take the time to give yourself the gift of relaxation. You will feel powerful and relaxed all at the same time. Diana and her model provide the perfect atmosphere for an amazing yoga experience. Enjoy! BEST YOGA DVD OUT THERE!

Relaxed and Positive
I found this DVD to be easy to follow. I feel refreshed, focused and positive when I am finished. I highly recommend this DVD to anyone who needs time to recharge.

Give This Practice a Try!
I was fortunate to be able to attend Diana's restorative yoga classes in person, but then I moved to another state. Since then, I have been hoping that Diana would produce her own yoga DVD and, happily, that day has arrived. Through voice over, Diana guides you through a series of gentle yoga sequences while also introducing breathing techniques. The camera shots are perfectly paced and feature the yoga model demonstrating the postures while Diana gives voice over instruction. The floor based sequences are very gentle and slow paced, encouraging you to really settle into the pose and the moment. Throughout the practice, Diana gives clear guidance, explaining the movements and breathing techniques, and her voice is calming, peaceful, and encouraging.

The DVD set up gives you a choice in how you want to practice the sequences; you can either choose to practice all of the sequences in order, all at once, or you can choose a particular sequence and practice it on it's own...
