Irresistable
I saw this band recently at a local jazz fest and when I saw this DVD was coming out I ordered it immedialtely. For anyone who only has her CDs- seeing her live is a whole other experience. Our seats were pretty far away when I saw her so its a treat to be able to see everything up close on this DVD.The lighting is somewhat subdued on this stage but everything is clear and the angles are interesting and they didn't jump around too much for the editing. And the sound is superb.
This girl has everything-amazing technique-yes-but so much more- energy, commitment and musicality,charisma-and her obvious love for the music all come through loud and clear on here.So many highlights but her interpretation of the Beethoven Sonata is just exquisite.Highly recommended.
Fabulous Jazz Fusion
Hiromi is a musical force that must be heard (and seen) to be believed. Her technical ability, combined with unparalleled improvising skills, are incomparable. This DVD captures her at her best. Her band mates, drum legend Simon Philips and bass god Anthony Jackson, rise to her challenge and make this recording a must-have item for any serious jazz-rock fusion lover. Certainly, it isn't your run-of-the-mill jazz band. There is not much that is 'traditional' about it, but, on the other hand, they never venture into 'smooth jazz' territory either (thank God!!!). This DVD captures a marvelous performance, sometimes manic in tempo and full of ferocious improvisation, at others, highly lyric and sweet; it is one of Hiromi's finest recordings yet. So, if you're in the mood for some unbelievable pianism, brilliant invention, and truly inspired music-making, this is the show for you!
As an aside, this is Hiromi's latest concert DVD - her fourth. I would highly recommend all...
Another great release.
Great DVD. Picture is right up there with Blu-Ray, really sharp with nice rich colors. No games, nice camera work. Nice shots of each musician. No choice for sound just automatically starts in LPCM stereo. Sound is superb, even with Blu-Ray I don't listen to the new codecs, LPCM is lossless also. For me surround is for movies. The sound is right up there with the best I've ever heard, if not the best I've heard on DVD or Blu-Ray. As for the music, just look at the group! Musical, technical & complex, doesn't get any better. I've seen her twice, once with this group & once with Steve Smith on drums. Great to see each musician from the perfect angle.
