The release (dub) fans have been waiting for!
I was very excited to receive my copy of this set in the mail yesterday. Let me start with some pros and cons:
PROS: Cool, professional looking box. Great video quality. Special features are a neat plus.
CONS: NO JAPANESE LANGUAGE, no subtitles for hearing-impaired, box is a little flimsy.
My first impressions were really good: The outside sleeve looked neat and professional (I've seen shows released by distributors like this that do not seem professional at all). It would also be very easy for a company like New Video Group, who is not the owner of Digimon, to get some of the little details wrong, and I was very pleased to find this wasn't the case.
The set is made up of 8 discs, each with a Digidestined and their Digimon printed on the disc (Including Kari and Gatomon!). The discs are contained in a plastic box, but are thankfully NOT on a spindle. My only complaint about the packaging (and maybe this is just my copy) is that the box has trouble staying...
Amazing Series - but $80?!
I've been a Digimon fan since I stumbled upon it at age 12 one morning on Fox Kids. Oddly enough, I was actually just buying time waiting for Pokemon to come on, but once I found Digimon, I was hooked and dropped Pokemon all together. The story line is not only compelling but I feel that each character in this show has their own personal challenges and they grow so much throughout the entire season. Season One is where it all started and ANY collector should seek out this series to own on DVD.
My ONLY complaint is the price. $80 for a DVD set?! Not even blu ray tv sets sell for THAT much (unless it's Harry Potter), but I just pre-ordered another cartoon box set for $41 that was blu-ray. So far Amazon and Best Buy have the highest listed prices, but buyers should know, Walmart has this series for pre-order for $34.95. Guess I know where I am getting my copy.
So yes, collectors, fans, buyers, BUY this series, but DON'T spend $80 on it.
